Your critical inner voice is formed from painful early life experiences, where you have experienced hurtful behavior toward yourself or someone close to you.
As you grow up you unconsciously integrate the voice as a normal part of you to help you behave the best way.
Your critical inner voice affects not only yourself, it affects others around you too.
It is with you all through the day in all of your relations, at work, in your family, in discussions, in love – from morning until you go to bed.
Even in your dreams, you can be accompanied by your inner critic.
When you create positive affirmations you challenge your inner critical voice.
So cheer on yourself today while you create positive sentences about yourself.
Find a piece of paper to write on.
If you can continue to write on yesterday’s paper do that.
Put your phone on airplane mode to avoid distractions for the next 3 minutes.
Time: 10 seconds
Now write “Day 3” on your paper.
Take a deep breath in and exhale slowly.
Time: 5 minutes (more/less if you prefer)
Write 3-5 sentences like you did yesterday and the day before.
You are not allowed to copy from the 2 previous days.
You need to write 3-5 new sentences.
Write no more than 5.
Remember if it gets too difficult you can be inspired by the below examples.
You follow the same structure of the sentence as you are now used to:
“Today I was good at [fill in], because [fill in].
Here are 3 examples for you:
“Today I was good at following instructions because I followed the steps on Feel Good”
“Today I was good at getting out of bed, because I did it even though I was tired“
“Today I was good at taking a deep breath because I did so during my exercise“
Go on find 3-5 things which you were good at today.
Remember it is ok to be inspired by above examples.
You are done!
Look at the sentences you wrote. You have done a great job.
Do you find it more difficult? Or does it get a bit easier today?
Nevertheless, this was your last day of writing sentences. WELL DONE!
You are going to use the sentences you have written for the next 4 days.
So save your sentences from Day 3 together with your sentences from Day 1 and Day 2.
Choose one sentence you feel is OK from today – or just choose one of them.
Now in a minute, you should say this sentence out loud to yourself.
But before you do, you add an extra sentence in the beginning i.e.:
“I admire myself because …”
This can e.g. make your sentence sound like this:
“I admire myself because today I was good at writing in hand because I wrote 3 sentences on paper“
Now say your sentence out loud to yourself.
If English is not your primary language you can easily translate the sentences and say them out loud in your own language. That is maybe more powerful for you.
